Why We Fund Education

At Markore, we believe a legacy is measured by more than the leather goods we make. It is also measured by the lives it helps change. Education is a right and an engine for independence, which is why every Markore purchase contributes to school fees, supplies and safe classrooms for girls in Pakistan through two established partners: the Malala Fund and The Citizens Foundation (TCF).

Girls studying in a classroom in Pakistan

Pakistan is in the midst of a deep education crisis. According to UNICEF, an estimated 25.1 million children aged 5 to 16 are out of school, which is 35% of all school-aged children and the second-highest number in the world. In several provinces, more girls than boys are out of school, reflecting the deep barriers girls face.

The Citizens Foundation operates 2,261 school units across Pakistan and educates 320,000 students, half of them girls. The Malala Fund works to give every girl the chance to complete twelve years of school, supporting local education advocates across Pakistan.

Beyond its schools, TCF runs Aagahi, an adult literacy programme launched in 2005 to teach reading, writing and basic maths to women from rural areas and urban settlements near TCF schools. It has reached 293,000 learners, and in 2017 it received the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy. In Urdu, Aagahi means "awareness."

How Your Purchase Makes an Impact

⦿ 8% of the price of every Markore product goes to girls' education.

⦿ €4 funds one week of school for one girl, covering tuition, supplies and uniform.

⦿ A €50 product contributes €4, one week of school. A €100 product contributes €8, two weeks. A €150 product contributes €12, three weeks.

Every product page shows its exact contribution and the number of school weeks it covers, calculated with this same rule.

How the Money Reaches Our Partners

We set aside 8% of each order at the time of sale and pool these contributions. Once pooled, we transfer them to the Malala Fund and TCF. Fewer, larger transfers keep fees low, so more of every contribution reaches classrooms.

Why Focus on Girls?

When girls go to school, whole communities benefit. Literacy rises, family health improves and household incomes grow. TCF has reached an even balance of girls and boys in its classrooms, helped by a faculty made up entirely of women: more than 16,500 female teachers, many of them former TCF students.

Authenticity Matters

⦿ A fixed rule: 8% of the price of every product, set aside at the time of sale.

⦿ Established partners: our contributions go to the Malala Fund and The Citizens Foundation, both registered charities that publish their results.

⦿ Clear numbers: every product page shows the exact amount and the school weeks it covers.

Real-World Momentum

In 2024, Pakistan's government declared an education emergency to tackle the crisis. Organisations like TCF and the Malala Fund are where that ambition turns into classrooms, teachers and girls who stay in school.

Markore products are built to last decades. An education lasts a lifetime. With every purchase, you become part of both.
